June is Seniors Month

June 1st is the beginning of Seniors’ Month. Throughout the month the Nova Scotia Securities Commission will be sharing investor education content relevant to seniors and their families by delivering presentations to seniors’ groups. Here is a closer look at some of the content and presentations we have scheduled.

Before You Invest Blog

In June our Before You Invest Blog will deliver a new blog series on Protecting Seniors. This three-part series will focus on:

  • Investor education presentations and a new initiative called Fraud Bingo available to seniors’ organizations and seniors’ living facilities.

  • Financial elder abuse prevention for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD).

  • Investment fraudsters that target seniors, and prevalent investment frauds.

Follow NSSC on Social Media where we’ll be sharing new and evergreen content aimed at older investors. This will include our Investing Information for Seniors webpage, videos on financial elder abuse, and our investing guides and information sheets developed for seniors.

Nova Scotia Securities Commission Presentations

The Commission has three presentations scheduled during Seniors’ month:

On Thursday, June 13 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Commission staff will be visiting the Chebucto Links Active Living for Seniors group at Faith City Church, 6225 Summit St, Halifax, to talk about financial elder abuse and investment fraud.

On Thursday, June 13 from 7-8 p.m. Commission staff will be visiting the Halifax Central Library to talk about financial elder abuse and investment fraud.

On Monday, June 17 from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Commission staff will be visiting the Flourish 55+ Centre in Bridgewater for a presentation on recognizing investment fraud and scams.
