Understanding, Regulations, Rules, Policies, Notices and Orders

The regulation of sales of securities in Nova Scotia is governed by Nova Scotia securities laws, which includes the Securities Act, regulations, rules and orders.

Securities Act and Regulations:

Laws made by the Government of Nova Scotia.

Rules:

Laws made by the Commission.

Policies:

Guidance on how the securities legislation is interpreted or applied by the Commission.

Notices:

Announcement about a Commission initiative or position.

Orders:

Evidence of a decision made by the Commission or a Director.  An example is a cease trade order which advises the public and a company that certain securities of the company can no longer be sold.
