The principal mandate of the Nova Scotia Securities Commission (NSSC) is to protect Nova Scotia investors. One of the ways we do that is by issuing investor alerts and cautions. You can find all the alerts we’ve issued for the last eight years on our Investor Alert Database.
To create further awareness concerning the companies and people we have issued alerts and cautions about, our Before You Invest Blog does regular reviews of alerts throughout the year. We also do a full-year review, which is what this post will provide. The review looks back at all the alerts and cautions we issued in 2023.

The Nova Scotia Securities Commission issued an urgent warning about a widespread type of scam that is victimizing numerous Nova Scotians, other Canadians and U.S. residents and causing substantial losses, including individual losses of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Canadian securities regulators warn public about unregistered trading platform Nova Tech Ltd
The CSA warned the public that Nova Tech Ltd, which operates the website www.novatechfx.com, is not registered with a securities regulator in any province or territory in Canada. This means they are not authorized to offer trading in any securities or derivatives to anyone located in Canada.
Canadian securities regulators warn the public about GoldberryCo
The securities regulatory authorities in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Northwest Territories, Prince Edward Island and Yukon warned the public about GoldberryCo, which is operating an online investment scam targeting Canadians through the websites goldberryco.com and Goldbrco.com. GoldberryCo is not registered to sell investments in Canada.
Investor Alert: Advisor Impersonation Schemes
The New Self-Regulatory Organization of Canada and the CSA warned Canadian investors not to be fooled by fraudsters impersonating real investment advisors.
The CSA warned Canadians to be vigilant about purported crypto trading service providers that are claiming to be authorized or affiliated with fictitious regulatory or dispute resolution organizations.
Don’t be “finfluenced” when making investment decisions
In recognition of Investor Education Month in October and Financial Literacy Month in November, the CSA encouraged all Canadians to prioritize their financial well-being and verify their sources of investment information.
The Nova Scotia Securities Commission, Halifax Regional Police, and Halifax District RCMP are warning Nova Scotians to be vigilant when investing in crypto assets as residents continue to lose substantial amounts of money to crypto-related scams.
