Investor Alerts & Cautions review: January – March

The principal mandate of the Nova Scotia Securities Commission (NSSC) is to protect Nova Scotia investors. One of the ways we do that is by issuing investor alerts and cautions. You can find all the alerts and cautions we’ve issued for the last nine years on our Investor Alert Database.

To create further awareness concerning the companies and people identified in Alerts and Cautions, our Before You Invest Blog does regular reviews of Alerts throughout the year.

This review looks back at all the Alerts and Cautions issued between December and March. This month we’ve also included some alerts issued by external organizations that are relevant to Nova Scota investors.

December 11, 2025 - Canadian securities regulators’ new capability disarms more than 3,900 fraudulent investment websites

The CSA in collaboration with the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) today announced initial results from its newly launched initiative to help combat the rising number of fraudulent websites that pose a threat to Canadian investors

January 15, 2026 - Start the new year as a safe, informed investor: Nova Scotia Securities Commission unveils the Top Six Investor Threats of 2026

NSSC alerted investors to the top six investor threats to watch out for in 2026. Knowing the most prominent investment frauds and how to identify the red flags of investment fraud is an investor’s first line of defense.

January 23, 2026 - Canadian securities regulators warn registrants about new impersonation scam

The CSA is warning registrants about an email impersonating the CSA that uses publicly available information to target them. The emails are believed to be malicious “spear phishing” attempts by unknown individuals who are trying to obtain personal information or confidential business information. We urge all Canadians to be vigilant, to check the source, not to click links or provide any information

March 3, 2026 - Canadian securities regulators’ release updated numbers on disarming more than 7,500 fraudulent investment websites

March is Fraud Prevention Month, and the Nova Scotia Securities Commission (NSSC) is reminding Nova Scotians that fraudsters continue to target Nova Scotians by phone, text, email, and social media.

March 18, 2026 - RCMP warns public to be fraud aware after multiple scams reported

The RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is warning the public to be fraud aware after multiple incidents were reported throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.
