It was another busy year for the Nova Scotia Securities Commission Investor Education office in 2025. We published over 45 new blog posts and over 35 investor education videos and reels, while several pieces of our evergreen content continued to be popular among users of our website and YouTube and social media channels. Once again, in December we’re going to finish off the year by looking at the investor education content, both written and videos, that generated the most views in 2025.

1. Why did Binance Exit Canada?
Even though it happened in 2023, investors continued to be interested in Binance’s exit from the Canadian in 2025 as it was our most viewed blog post this year. Binance continued to make news around the world in 2025 which maintained interest in the company and our blog post.
Impersonation scams continued to be extremely common in 2025 as fraudulent ads, social media posts, and deepfake videos depicting celebrities caused millions in losses. The prevalence of these types of scams caused our blog post to be a popular read in 2025.
3. What is the difference between a hedged and unhedged ETF?
For the third straight year our blog post on the difference between hedged and unhedged ETFs has ranked in the top 3 among our readers. If you don’t know the difference, check out our blog post to find out.
4. Do I have to pay tax on US stocks I own in my TFSA?
The rules around taxes on US stocks held in TFSAs was popular again in 2025, and it has also ranked in the top 3 for the third straight year.
5. How do capital gains taxes work?
Taxes on investments was also the topic of our fifth most popular post which looks at capital gains taxes. This has cracked the top 10 of our most popular blog posts for the last three years.

Investor Education Reels/Shorts:
We added a new content category in 2025 by publishing reels to our Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn channels, and shorts to our YouTube channel. NSSC staff got in front of the camera to film 36 reels on a wide variety of investment topics. Here is a look at the top 10 viewed reels when we combined views on all four social media channels. We had fun with the popularity of the Severance season two finale with our Severance parody reel. Is your outie an informed investor? This was our second most popular reel of 2025, but be sure to enjoy every reel equally.
Our Investing Explained series hit the ground running in 2025 with 17 reels released throughout our social channels. Our most popular Investing Explained reel was on stock splits. What is a stock split? Watch our reel to find out in less than three minutes.
To help put a face on the NSSC, our “Getting to know…” series put the spotlight on Commission staff to explain what they do at the NSSC and how they support our mandate. From this series the most watched reel was Part 1 talking to our Executive Director, Jane Anderson.

In 2025 our YouTube Channel grew to include 81 investor education videos. Some of the topics covered by videos produced in 2025 included: dollar cost averaging, time horizon, crypto fraud, and other forms of investment fraud. Gamification techniques used by online investing platforms were on the mind of regulators and investors in 2025. That also generated interest in our video on the subject.
